It's one of the best looking consoles games but it's equaled by Killzone 3 and beaten by Uncharted 3
The Last of Us has very nice lighting, shadows, animation, effects & character models but has noticeable pop-in, mostly muddy textures, some dodgy looking foliage & distracting aliasing. Also once you have a few enemies on screen coming after you the framerate gets a little sluggish and I see a clear difference in the frequent rendered cut-scenes with improved anti-aliasing, textures & lighting.
The game is so great and presented so well that it's easy to think back after beating it that everything about it looked great but there's definitely less visual polish than Uncharted 3 had so even though it's better looking it's overall not as consistent and therefore I believe it doesn't deserve the title as the best looking console game, one of the best yeah, no doubt it's a beautiful game.
