This really isn't the place to go into it. I could speak a lot on this, but am not going to.
What I will say is I am reading one of NT Wright's latest books, "How God Became King" so what he has, would reflect close to what I would end up saying. The short is that, because of an inability to be relevant in this life, heaven and hell get preached, to fill in gaps. People who are even said to be Christians will throw out the return of Christ, and speak about people having their own personal judgement when they die, and then off to heaven or hell forever. In this, no thought of the return of Christ is given at all, and how one is to live here, and getting good fruits, is spoken. Oh, the closest may be Jesus as "best buds", and so on. But, if I go into the gospels, there is said to be a final judgement and people will be surprised by the outcome.
