They did that with 13 and suffered a massive backlash. 

Company hasn't learned. When your grand E3 reveal has 12 sec of real-time gameplay, you aren't ready to reveal. 

It was just a ploy to earn some goodwill from the fans. 

This is wrong. What we were shown at E3 was in game footage mixed CGI. You cannot relate the 2. When FF13 series was revealed none of the games were in actual development. That's the polar opposite 15 which has been in development years.
