I think the editor of the article actually meant "Pile of crap." Because "dead" would mean that Square Enix cared enough to stop producing Final Fantasy games, and people stopped buying them. (Which is not happening.)
Personally, I kind of liked FFXIII. FFXIII-2 looks better, but I haven't fully played it yet. FF Lightning Returns is too much milk for me.
