Based on what?  There are so many "manmade chemicals" that we put in our bodies that we believe are good.  What do you think medicine is?  What do you think candy is?  What do you think goes into our water?  There's also a LOT of problems if you wanted to force the country to go 100% organic.  I would suggest you read the book called The Omnivore's Dilemma so it can help you understand a bit more what some of the issues are.

Yes, exactly.  Going organic there also means trouble.  The way we do things now yields a high number of crops and meat.  Switching to wholly organic would mean less food and crops would require to use more pesticides unless you mean to lose even MORE of your crops due to pests.
