calling the Wii U a faliure is like calling the PS4/Xbone a success IMO. we only know if it suceeded or not at the end of the gen not the beginning. by that logic the PS3 would be a faliure.

The WiiU is certainly in a much better position right now than the PS3 was after the same time period : its installed base is roughly at the same point but the competitors haven't released their next gen consoles yet so it will have an important advantage in terms of installed base. With this advantage the WiiU is right now in approximately the same position as the 360 at the beginning of the previous gen which lead the MS console to end up with an amazing third party support even if it wasn't initially that great.

With the Wii Nintendo also has proven that it doesn't even need a good third party support to make its console become an amazing success and there isn't any relevant argument to believe that the situation has changed enough for this not to happen again even in the less plausible and worst case scenario where third parties wouldn't support it that much.
