That may be true but MSX system was a good competitor in 1987. It had Metal Gear, Penguin Adventure, Maze of Galious and more great games released. Sadly a few people even know what MSX is LOL.

The MSX was barely released in the US though.  Kojima is still mad because the botched NES port of Metal Gear (which he had nothing to do with) sold millions outside Japan and introduced most people in the West to his series.    The NES game was a very bad quick and dirty port done by a small team, but for some reason it was still was very popular.
