3GB for the OS? I'm sorry but that's fucking insane. The Xbone has 3 operating systems and provides a seamless experience with apps and switching over, AND multitasking. The PS4 will use a variation of Linux and it looks way more simplistic than a fucking windows kernal. What the fuck is eating up all this RAM? Wouldn't the 15 min recording stream to the hard drive? If not, then fuck that feature. In hindsight Sony had never come clear about how much memory was reserved for the games and I now see why, they knew their fans would be disappointed. I'm tired of these fucking console makers being discrete over the true specifications of the console. I feel like they're trying to trick their consumers, fuck that. To be honest the PS4 is starting to look less and less appealing to me. I might just stick to PC Gaming to be honest Sony is losing me as a fan.

The amount of ram used by a console's OS will probably be reduced as the console ages. The Xbox One probably won't need the 3gb or ram in a year or 2. But Sony on the other hand had a problem this gen with not having enough ram for their OS and it suffered because of it. No game is going to need more than 4 gigs of ram for quite a while, so in the meantime Sony is probably looking to future proof their console. Whatever the numbers might be now, are subject to change in the future. I still don't get why having the same amount of ram available to developers as the xbox one makes the console any less attractive, but more of that ram will become available to developers if they need it in the future.

I'm not angry that it's only 5, I'm angry because Sony could've told us instead of us finding out through a DF article, especially when you consider the lot of the internet expected the PS4 to have 6-7 gigs available. It just seems sneaky to me....
Like how Microsoft spouted the cloud BS to raise people's expectations. Sony decided to be vague about arguably their second biggest advantage. And now that that's debunked I feel like they were trying to trick consumers. Maybe it's just me but I'd appreciate it if these console makers would be upfront about all their specifications instead of boosting them up to build hype that ultimately turns out to be BS.

Cripes, a lot of hot air over nothing. Developers themselves are happy with the RAM amount they get to play with so why should you, the end user, care when games look great and perform well? 5GB RAM is more than enough for devs getting to grips with the new hardware. Futhermore, in the future, more RAM will be made available through optimization. Its not like those 3GB of GDDR5 suddenly disappears into thin air >_<
Anyway, no other company has gone into detail about RAM allocations because it makes zero difference to people outside of development teams. Its better than not giving much detail on the console at all ~ Wii U, Xbox One.
