You are correct.  At least he alluded to it.  He said it was nicer to have large ammounts of RAM so you could avoid having to stream large chunks of data at different times.  Another dev, Steve Gaynor, agreed and said that his team was loading the their game entirely in RAM at once.

Ok thanks!  At least I know I'm not crazy now. :-p
