Instead of getting a Vita, get a PSP. Otherwise, get a 3DS. I'd wait till Vita gets more support instead of buying it right now.

This. So many times this.

Really, the Vita needs a price drop and a Vita Go model with at least 32 GB of built in memory. You can get a 3DS XL and a 64 GB memory card for less than the base Vita model. Even remote play isn't really that great, considering it means spending about $700-$800 just on consoles. The Vita's a great piece of hardware, but the 3DS has all the value. And yes, the PSP is making circles around it on that front, too.

PS4 = $399
Vita = $249 (but it's pretty easy to find it cheaper)

PS4+Vita = $648

Not $700-$800

PS4 + Vita + Smallest memory card + carrying case + screen protector = $400 + $250 + $20 + $15 + $5 = $690. The Vita is not a 3DS. It can't fold up to make carrying it easier or to protect its screen. It needs a screen protector and a carrying case, to play Vita games it needs a memory card, and to be fair comparing it to the 3DS (which has all of these or acceptable substitutes for them out of the box) you need to factor all this stuff in as part of the console's initial cost, because they're basically hidden costs.

If you wanted the Vita to have any functionality at all, you would get a bigger memory card, and if you really only wanted to use it for remote play (and thus forego the memory card) only a fool would get the WiFi model. $50 extra AND a subscription. Buying this stiff at MSRP will put you into the $700-800 dollar range, I guarantee it.
