Though I did read that the reason Sony's memory cards are priced like they are, is so that retailers have some high profit accessories to sell with the consoles to encourage them to actually stock Vita in the first place (with the push on digital, retail has no incentive to push the device at all).

I read somewhere that 50% of memory card price is pure profit for the retailer.


While I can't speak for other retailers, at Best Buy profit of memory cards definetely aren't that high. I wish though since my employee discount depends on how much it costs Best Buy to get a product. Now I can't say the actual amount of profit on memory card for obvious reasons but I'd say its around 20-30%.
