People who really love music and have a deeper understanding off it than most tend to view the music charts with contempt. They favour "underground" music scenes over "manufactured" boy bands etc.
You'd probably have difficulty finding a film student who raves about anything Hollywood has to offer. They'd more than likely prefer low buget indie flicks and foreign "arty" movies.
Is the same thing going on when we refer to "casual" and "hardcore" gamers? Is the divide only becoming more apparent as the industry grows? Are games like Space Invaders and Pac-man comparable with films such as Fritz Lang's Metropolis? Or what about pre-beatles pop music, before anyone realised what big buisness it could be and whored out endless boy bands souls?
