I have a 3000 one myself, so i could recommend that. But why do you need WiFi on PSP though? If that is not a problem, then you could go with the newest model, as missing WiFi must be helping the battery life.

So I can download things straight to the console.  It isn't a massive problem, since I can just download them & then transfer, but it seems a bit redundant.  Means I wouldn't be able to access the online features for things like LittleBigPlanet as well, which I own and probably will wish to play on PSP.

E1000 seems to have a load of other problems too though, non-replacable battery & mono speakers being the two main ones.

Thanks for the feedback on the 300 too :)

Sure man. If that is your standpoint, then the 3000 model is the best thing for you. IF you have more molah, you can get a Vita and have all the features of the PSP and have a next gen handheld alltogether.
