Soapbox: The 8-Bit Era Laid the Groundwork, but Modern Day Progress Shouldn't be Discounted

I'm not one for nostalgia but the 8 bits era is still my favorite era in gaming. Though I think it has more to do with the fact that life was more simple back then and having friends over to play games will always trump trash talking some stranger on the internet.
