We did not have internet back then. So when we talk about consoles, it was straight up, face to face. So we were more respectful on the way we jab at one another on which console is better and actually get to talk about games and why they are good rather than trying to down play them because they are exclusive to one console. So we had fond memories of that period.

Nowadays, its the exact opposite because we can remain anonymous over the internet and even, when we are not being anonymous (such like Facebook or Twitter). The person you are talking to is probably across the ocean or in the next city. Add to the fact, that you are just reading what the person is typing rather than having an actual conversation. So even if person did not meant to offend anyone, it can still lead to misunderstandings.

So the disconnect between people is making this current generation of console wars ugly and the community badly divided.
