IGN's audience is primarily PS & Xbox gamers. Not a lot of Nintendo fans go there.
So basically IGN's audience (for the most part) doesn't want to read about games they're not going to touch with a 39-and-a-half-foot pole, so IGN tends to exclude Nintendo from a lot of discussions. It's partly IGN's fault, partly the fault of Nintendo fans for giving IGN the cold shoulder... chicken/egg, again.
Believe me, if X was included in the poll, it would have lost, anyway, because a lot of IGN's readers don't pay attention to Nintendo news and wouldn't even know what X is.
If you want fair Nintendo coverage, I recommend Destructoid.
