Well there is certainly disbelief, but I'm not sure it's coming from the people you think it is.  We're talking about a system that is down YoY, with several months pretty near 100k.  The PSP was 24.2% higher in 2007, 46.4% higher in 2008, and the 3DS only beat the 2009 numbers by 3.5%.  The DS of course was in a completely different league.  2009 in particular saw sales more than four times higher than 3DS sales in 2013. 07/08/10/11 were all more than double.

I've seen people surprised by how well the PSV is doing. It doesn't have to beat PSP or last year's numbers (just as 3DS doesn't have to beat DS numbers, although it has been up YOY lately) to exceed expectations, which is what I'm talking about.

And it's fun seeing the Vita exceed expectations, too. So the kind of reaction I'm referring to is, "Wow, I thought the Vita was doing much worse than that," or "3DS was on top this month, and beat its numbers from the same month last year? I thought it was overtracked by a lot."
