Not only are they not pointless but they make a damn good OS drive.

Costs are now getting better. 80 cents to the GB is average and even as low as 65 cents to the GB is seen. Sure mechanical HDD's certainly have the price advantage of 5 cents per GB but depending on your needs, an SSD is very much worth it.

Granted a 1 TB SSD for the consumer market is a bit unnecessary unless you work with massive uncompressed video files a lot.
