I got this guy on my XBL friend's list. Great guy. Very mature. Very friendly. Good gamer. He bought himself his own HD PVR about half a year ago. His videos (and commentary) are awful. He releases about 20 videos a week and sends messages about each of them to all his friends. Now I imagine this....but with everyone. Everyone starts recording and releasing vids non stop. Friends are constantly notified automatically about every new recording. There's zero entry barrier. Everybody can get in on the action, without any difficulty.
It's going to be bad. REALLY BAD.
Maybe it's just me, but I think I'm gonna have to end up blocking notifications from like 90% of my friends. People I like. Don't even get me started on what YouTube is gonna look like. |
This will most certainly NOT be bad. It iwll be just as it is today. It will have a lot of crap with some good stuff floating around. Many of the CoD games have game film etc. as do many STrategy games on PC but a majority of players NEVER use them. And if this does indeed increase the number of streamers, who knows how many more GOOD streams are established.
Not to metion that these video capture systems are either going straight to Ustream or Twitch ATM. Sure they may epxand those services in the future but I just don't see it being the doom and gloom you do. That said the usefulness of these services doews depend on its implementation such as ensuring the most popular streams make it to the forefront to be more readily found and the ability to block notifications etc. if you wish to.
