The previous text was based on a true story. See, the thing is, having a game available on Xbox 360 AND PC doesn't make the game or the Xbox or PC less special because it's "multi-plat". If anything, it makes the PS3 LESS desireable because it's the one format that doesn't have that title! It's like buying a car based on its special features like 90 miles per gallon and totally ignoring the fact that it doesn't have air-conditioning because air-conditioning is not exclusive. That's kind of a big deal. Do you think that the person who is interested in buying a PS3 or a 360 gives a darn that Fable III got ported to the PC? He just wants to play the game! One console has it. The other console doesn't. Simple, right? That's why I propose we compare consoles like This: One console's ENTIRE library vs. another console's ENTIRE library. I know it sounds crazy and it scares people but it just might work. Had Jim considered this, he might still be alive today. Don't say a game doesn't count because "It's casual", "it's download only", "it's multi-plat", "it's from a milked franchise", "it has a girl on the cover", or any other crazy reason we come up with to say a game doesn't count as a game. Who knows? It just might save a life. |
I agree entirely. Though I prefer the PS3 as a platform, it's no good having a PS3 if you want to play a game that isn't on PS3. No matter how good the other stuff may be, if it doesn't appeal to you, it's not going to sway you!
Vita has no games (according to a lot of non real gaming haters) because they can all be played somewhere else just about, not all on the same platforms (it's kind of getting a good selection of PC Indie, there are now also some good iOS ports coming across, as well as PS2/PS3 ports. and it has the USP of being the only place you can play all of them with physical controls comfortably arranged onto the unit and on the go.)
But yes, a great game is a great game regardless of how many/few formats it came out on. Good thread!
