It's a self contained ecosystem that they control, I don't see what the issue is. Just the same as Steam is Valve's ecosystem, or the Mac appstore on mac is Apple's. The larger PC ecosystem has no owner or controller but there exist many sub ecosystems within it.


MS`s ecosystem on the PC is so much more than the appstore.

- Office
- Skype
- Azure
- SQL Server
- Windows itself
- .NET
- Internet Explorer

All belongs to the ecosystem MS built around the PC.
