Regardless of your initial impression, always get both sides of the story: http://www.loop21.com/life/marissa-alexander-husband-rico-gray-speaks . Sounds like they're both quite a mess. He has a history of domestic abuse, and she also pled no contest to assaulting him. Both are black, a member of the jury was black, and deliberations were only 12 minutes (so obviously no objections from the black jury member) so I'm not quite sure where the racial bias argument even comes in here.
I really believe that if this were two white folks from the trailer park it wouldn't have even made the news.
