I just had a thought. I live in a mostly black middle-class neighborhood ('mostly black' because my family is white, we're the only white family in this small neighborhood). If I saw a young white male walking through people's front yards, I would be suspicious. Not because I'm racist against my own race (obviously), but because he'd look out of place. I saw a seedy looking white guy I didn't recognize walking through the neighborhood a few weeks ago and jokingly told my wife 'Are we about to get robbed?'. We sat in the car and watched in the rearview mirror to see him leave the neighborhood. Suspicion is more an issue of what looks out of place in my opinion.
