The problem with a thread/statement like this, is that talking about "PC Gaming" NOW, as opposed to even 10-15 years ago, is a hugely different thing. Once upon a time, console gaming and pc gaming were totally different things. Every once in awhile you'd see a port of a game from one to the other. But it there was a distinct difference between console games and pc games. They were two different worlds of gaming, and two you could enjoy seperately. And as such, "PC Gamers" back then were a totally different breed as well.

Nowadays I find more and more so-called "PC Gamers" who don't necessarily like what used to be considered po games, so much as they just like/prefer playing ports of console games on their PC, via Steam or what have you. It's become a melting pot, and to me, that's not "PC Gaming". That's just ports of console games, played on pc (often with console-like controllers, or in some cases using straight up PS3 or Xbox 360 controllers).

So if "PC Gamers" have grown as a crowd, it's not that actual pc games have become more popular, but that many former console gamers have migrated with the same games they would be playing on home systems, for their computers. That's my take on it anyway.

What many people fail to realse is that the mmo/moba genra brings in a lot of gamers, gamers that don't have steam, gamers that don't play non moba/mmo games. People don't associate this crowd with pc gamers, even they themselves don't call themselves pc gamers. It is not that console gamers have migrated but that mmo/moba games have grasped the "casual" gamers, ones that play one or two games a year like the cod and fifa gamers.

Many people game on pc, but the vast majority aren't people who always use steam and who have monster pcs. Just like the majority of console gamers they play multiplayer games.
