I fully expect the X1:PS4 to be a lot closer to 1:1 in the US in about 6mo to 1yr after release of both consoles.
Initial sales might only reveal who has most stock, and at this point it does look like Sony has the most. However, after initial production I don't think that it will make a difference in sales and then we can truly see what is/will be in terms of sales.
HX gamers didn't flock to Wii U because it came a year early and had lack of third party games. I think most core gamers / early adopters were waiting for the reveal of next gen consoles. If the Wii U had more 3rd party support I wouldn't doubt it being able to stay profitable / relevant as a console. Now that all new consoles have been revealed I expect a huge spike in Wii U sales this holiday season, and record sales for the gaming industry in general.
