once again yeah sure you can do all that on PC.... but unless you have a bad ass set up... PC is nowhere remotely close in terms appeal, fun and convenience over consoles.... at least for me... my anti social geek years are behind me
it's pretty much the same argument as saying why do you buy a rig with OS X or Win on it when you can get suze, Ubuntu, debian, mint or anything Linux/FreeBSD for free.... this is true too doesn't change the ease of use convenience and ergonomic of the 2 main PC OSs especially when you are not versed in the world of the nerds....
here it's the same.... sure I know the issue I have been exclusively gaming on PC between dreamcast and Xbox (the first one) so I have done my share of custom rigs (even prior it being my only gaming rig) and geeking around..... not once have I had anything close in terms of entertainment on a PC even during LAN parties... once again the only way for me to put it on par with what a console provides me would be to make it a hybrid HTPC / gaming rig set up in my living room going through my AVR to get 5.1... plugging it on a high end HDTV and have a local multiplayer set up with XB pads... which would make it pretty unpractical for regular PC use (work, websurfing) and greatly increase the price of it over a 400 to 500 rig that will last me for almost 10 years such as PS4 or XB1...
and I'm not even talking about the wife that would go ballistic if I had a wart like that in the living room (yeah no man cave yet lol )
so PC could be 10 times better in terms of graphic output.... at a similar price there is no way it can achieve what I expect from my entertainment center.... or at least not as conveniently and practically than a console, with no hassle a polished dashboard, ease of use for everybody from my younger sister to almost my 92 year old grandma (yeah I'm pushing it here but you get the point) easy setup, multiplayer... and the entire community is on par everywhere... etc...
so yeah I'm a long lasting traditional gamer that enjoynovelty in the console world and the direction MS is taking (not talking about DRM).... I want a gaming console... with Kinect technology because I think it's fun even if it's silly.... and I want all the non gaming entertainment crap they plan because my entertainment needs in my living room for me and my family doesn't revolve only around games.... actually lately it might be one of the last use I have with my console (yet I still have 25 games to play and bought more than 200 this gen)
so PC is out of the question for me, WiiU doesn't appeal to me since the N64 and PS never did and both don't pack up what I want or at least don't have the vision that suites me the best.... gamers even traditional come in all colors and some people have hard time understanding that.... I don't like Sony and PS4 but if it is your most suited rig good for you and enjoy it.... sure i'll tease or talk shit every now and then.... but that's just like I talk back to my friends on their sport teams....
