| archbrix said: For me Mario is by far the best platformer series for many reasons, but one that is hard to argue against - the tight, accurate control mechanics. This is what bugs the hell out of me about the Retro developed Donkey Kong Country Returns because as much as I want to love it, the character is slippery as all hell, his roll move is almost suicidal (and having to shake the remote to do it on the Wii is deplorable), his inertia when he jumps feels terrible and having to time your button press as opposed to just holding it down to bounce high off of an enemy just sucks. The DKC games on the SNES controlled much better (although they still can't hold a candle to Mario as far as accuracy) but Retro's Kong just feels sloppy to me. Regarding Sonic and Rayman, I don't think they even compare to the Donkey Kong games much less Mario, but ironically, I'm looking forward to Lost World and especially Legends much more than Mario 3D World (which looks less than spectacular so far) or Tropical Freeze (simply because I know I'll be lamenting the controls once again unless they've changed them). |
I havent played the Wii DKC more than about 30 minutes but the 3DS one is amazing. And it definitely fixed the controls XD
