If in the future, we go full cybernetics or partial. Think ghost in the shell or deus ex human rev. What makes cybernetic humans with a conscious that much different then a robot who gains it eventually. I guess it would be the brain, but robots would have a cybernetic brain to interpret information similar to humans anyways. Add that with a consciousness to do what they deem right and they seem pretty damn close to being human. All of this is irrelevant if humanity does not go down this path though.
