I beat DKCR with fifty lives remaining, but it was still a pretty hard game regardless, because the life cap is at 100 and it's quite possible to lose 20+ lives per level. Actually, it took my thirty-five lives to beat the final level. Though that's partially because it was 3 AM during my attempt.
