I agree with a lot of what you say but I would still rate the game a bit higher. My unbiased opinion: No lower than an "8". In my personal opinion, which admittedly is a little biased because I love 2D Mario platformers, I'd give it a "9".
To anyone who picks up a WiiU in the future and is even remotely interested in it I highly recommend it, particularly when the game's price comes down a bit. The beautifully designed overworld map even trumps Super Mario World's and it's easily the best game of the "New" series IMO.
