| binary solo said: Just as it was eliminated in Communist Russia with the rise of the League of Militant Atheists, and Communist China with its widespread suppression of religion? No, wishful thinking bud this is merely a bit of a low point for religion. I think atheism will rise for about 50 or so more years and then people will start returning to a spiritual view of life, the universe and everything. Atheism is already starting to show signs of falling into fanaticism in the shrillness with which its most strident advocates take an increasingly militant attitude towards the defeat and eradication of religion from human society. People will continue to seek to get organised around atheism and in doing so it will become the very thing that the original individualist atheists hate most about religion: a group of people dedicated to the domination of their [a]theology over all others, and the cleansing of people's religious sensibilities "for their own good". Atheism will collapse under it's own weight of striving to become the dominant thought throughout the world. There will always be people who have spiritual experiences which to them are proof positive of a spiritual reality and hence God, and there will always be millions of people who accept those spiritual experiences as valid and true even if they don't experience such things themselves. I know many people, some who are former atheists who've had strong spiritual experiences, and no matter how much you tell them that "you can't disprove Zeus, therefore God doesn't exist" they will never deny the reality of those experiences. Enjoy atheism while it lasts, I get the feeling that most of us here are going to live to see it's intellectual purity become corrupted as people hungry for control and influence seek to use it to further their own agendas and thus herald the beginning of its eventual end. Of course Christianity and Islam are also dying a slow death and they will be consigned to the pages of history too. They are old and worn out, and they are two of the newer religions. |
Wow... you really believe that? Atheism is not a religion you know.
The downfall of religion comes from knowledge aka education. It only requires logical thinking to understand that the possibility of a god existing is a step that is unecessary in existance. Since its becoming increasigly clear that the creation of the universe doesnt require a God. What is it but a fairy tale created by human minds?
The so called "spiritual experiences" aswell as the easyness to fall to an easy answer on all things "God did it" stems from ignorance. These are all made by the human mind in lazyness or recognition of inability to find the answer or allucinations. The more widespread education becomes, the more likely it is religion will dim. I'm afraid its no temporary trend. Two to three Hundreads of years from now, i am certain that religion will be mostly eradicated and seen as nothing more than an irrational wish than anything that has any semble of justification.
Because we all wish God existed. It would make mortality so much easier to accept. The thing is, that isnt the universe. Have you ever thought about why the universe exists? Is it cause "god" willed it? Why did he will it? Was he bored or lonely? If were his project, why doesnt he "play"with us? We are pretty much certain he couldnt have created it cause he had no time to do it. So... where is this god? What purpose does he serve? Also do you know that if we had enough energy we could create a big bang aswell? Are we gods?
Those are some of the questions that will end religion. God is not logically necessary, doesnt obey any laws of the universe, its just there because a book said so. How likely is that huh? Lets play the probability game: Because god really exists?!!... or because some human made it to profit and control an ignorant socienty that has no way to verify it? Really, wich one do you think is the truth here? No wishful thinking! Its a probability.
And we arrive at the cruxis of the matter. The truth is what ultimately trumps religion. There is no escaping it. And writing new books doesnt work anymore because were on the digital age and anyone would catch them if they tried to modify them in order to conceal any breakthroughs in science. God has his days numbered the more we develop new technologies and advance science on the basis or imperical and irrefutable truths.
