This is still ridiculously expensive in my books. I have never actually PAID for a DVD player (first was my PS2, then got one for free) except for one I just bought in Singapore - $150 AU (and the reason I bought it, was that it plays Xvid, Divx, from USB drives, progressive scan/HDMI, etc - and it even CAME with a HDMI cable...). $600US = $800AU = shitload of money. I'll rather add an extra 50-60 DVD's to my collection... ... This is a reactive move by Sony because: - lots of people are not buying PS3's - HD-DVD players are much cheaper Sony can't afford to lose BOTH the console war and next-gen DVD war - this gives them some more hope in the DVD war in case they lose the PS3 war.
