I don't particularly care what reason the online check was put in place; I for one am not buying a $500 system that requires a daily internet connection to function.
Can you really blame Gamestop for doing that? X-Box One, at the time, supported polices that would cut deeply into their income. If I had been a retail store, I would have been pushing the Wii U and the PS4 as hard as I could during that period.
