but the $299 x360 was the one that didn't have a hard drive or something like that right? and people were forced to install a hard drive on it if they wanted to play many games and that costed more than simply buying the $399 model. So i think the only model that should be considered is the $399 one.

Actually people weren't forced to install a HDD since most games did not require an install. A HDD was needed if you wanted to play many digital games, though.
