Its really not even a matter of opinion, there is a reason that sony placed the sticks in those positions originally. Its because back when the ps1 came out the most popular genre was platforming. For this reason, the primary input methods were the d-pad and the face buttons. That is absolutely the only reason that the sticks are placed that way, even for platformers that stick placement is outdated as most platforms are more omnidirectional these days.
Sony is too proud to change their classic style and most ps fans are equally too proud to admit that its bad design. The only time where PS controller would be better is in cases where the primary input is the D-pad, that really only applies to (some) fighting games. Its bad design for pretty much every other genre.
There is no way that DS4 is the best input device ever if it gets this fundamental thing wrong. Sorry to the sony fans, but it is not an opinion to say that the primary input methods should be placed in primary positions.
