Every single benchmark I've seen for SLI/Crossfire setups has wild variations in terms of performance scaling, assuming that the game didn't have hobbling problems with the set up to begin with. It just seems like more trouble than it's worth--and entirely unnecessary in terms of getting good performance.
If I was going to spend $1000 on a card, I'd just put it towards a Titan. Or better yet, just get a 780 and put the savings towards other things, seeing as even that would be overkill for most games at 1080p.
