My point is that people shouldn't think that DirectX 11.2 being exclusive to Windows 8 and XBO is a big deal. 

There's a difference between a toolkit and a graphics API. The API Sony/AMD provides will be based on OpenGL.


Yes, but like you said, the API is standardized. But features can be created on top of it when you're able to code to the metal. That's where the ever evolving toolkits come into play, with their set of features updated throughout the course of the console gen.

Not really relevant to this thread.

It is, when you consider that most features DX 11.2 will bring  (and then some)  will be possible to be implemented most everywhere else.
