I'm not aware of any all-in one device from Apple, Google, Samsung or even Sony who can play Blu-rays, Titanfall, Forza 5, Halo 5, Skype, HDMI port in letting you see (or control) your TV while doing other stuff, surf the web and enhance your experience with Kinect 2 etc... But I may be wrong... Now, you can argue with me about the "usefulness" of these features but it will be a matters of oppinion at this point. The facts are that the Xbox One can do all of this and Microsoft's vision is to push for it. |
You and MS are dreaming if you think millions of non-gamers are going to buy this thing. If MS really wanted to appeal to the non-gamer audience here's what they'd do:
Kinect Box - Specs approximating the Wii U; Kinect 2.0; all the TV/Movie/connectivity stuff that's in the current XB One; $250 launch price; heavily marketed to the non-gaming audients, hence why ditching the "Xbox" name. That would have non-gamers buying it in their millions.
Instead tey went for a fully upgraded nexgen console for $500 which will continue to rely on enthusiastic gamers for at least 80-90% of sales. The TV/movie/connectivity stuff is there to try to convince gamers to go Xb one instead of PS4 or Wii U. But there's not all that much differentiation in the non-gaming aspects to really sway gamers, who will still buy primarily on games and price.
I think MS is trying to appeal to too many audiences and not making a very good job of appealing to any of them.
If there is something to be learned from Wii it's that the $250 launch price was a massive part in its dominance in the important years of this cycle, because that was a price that non-gamers could think was worth taking a purchasing risk on.
