I was never a big fan of JRPGs...initially being too young to understand their complexities (pretty much stuck with Pokemon and Paper Mario as my RPG games). But then came Xenoblade Chronicles. I bought it because two of my friends were getting it and I'd heard great reviews and whatnot...plus it was during a time when I'd already beaten Skyward Sword twice and Wii had NOTHING else to play. I put it in and tried playing through the tutorial...liking some of what I was seeing and hearing (the title screen music is still my favorite video game piece EVER!) but being completely confused and at a loss when it came to the gameplay. I literally played about an hour or two, getting to Colony 9 and the start of the game with Shulk and then not only being confused but OVERWHELMED by the scale. From that point on, I literally played the game for a couple hours every week or two...not loving it...not even sure if I liked it, but I had decided I HAD to at least give it a decent amount of time since I'd heard it was long and I'd spent $50 on it. It honestly took 3 or 4 months-when I was not even halfway-before it finally "clicked" and I got the game...I got the gameplay, and suddenly it all came together and I realized how special it was. Then I began to play it more often and for longer periods, purposely extending my play-time near the end doing sidequests and such and wound up planning and timing it so that I finished the game on New Year's Eve...more than 8 months after I started. Since then, I've played through the game's New Game Plus and have replayed just the ending half a dozen times. I imported the official soundtrack from Japan and Xenoblade Chronicles has officially become my favorite game of all time (Ocarina of Time is pretty much tied with it though). And not only that, it's made me willing to give other JRPGs a try and I've found that I really like them!
