The golden era of rpgs, to me, and mostly the only ones I've ever really been into, were mainly the SNES era rpgs. Breath of Fire, FF IV-VI, Chrono Trigger, Illusion of Gaia, etc.
Though I always have a soft spot in my heart for FFI on NES as well, despite it being balls hard and very archaic by now.
