Even with Donkey Kong himself there was doubt. Games in which Donkey Kong appeared during the early 6th generation (very early, before the stock-sale) would generally have Rareware credited for his appearance. Rare is one of the credited companies in Super Smash Bros Melee, and Donkey Kong's model is specifically credited to Rareware in Mario Kart: Super Circuit
