It feels almost ironic that I am one of the very few people defending Microsoft's decision here, considering that I'm often a harsh critic of Kinect and am still angry that I paid 130 Euros for that crap that's collecting dust ever since.
The decision to include a camera/microphone with every console is a good one. What's not good is forcing the user to attach it, and the fact that the depth sensing technology is way too expensive for the little use it brings to the average customer.
Sony would have taken the ideal route if they had included the PS4 camera with every console, because the PS4 camera is cheap, yet the most versatile.
