The cost thing was true upto this time, since gddr5 chips were not used on larger scale up to now. Sony wants to sell >10 million PS4 per year, that alone is >160 million gddr5 chips. >160 million chips for Sony alone. (That is more than ten times the number of cell chips Sony ever ordered in any year).
