"linear story-based game. We’re trying to tell a story. It’s what we call a filmic experience."

How original.

Just as original as Player driven games and arcade experiences.

Games have the power to tell a story similar to Movies but here we can be in that world and interact unlike movies. This is the great thing about Games which so many people forget and think games are just fun and time pass only, like play once/for some time then forget it and go for new one. A real passionate gamer(in my view) wants to feel the game and revisit whenever he wants to be in that world and feel the story again and again just like we watch old movies.

I'm really sad that most of the gamers today are after only multiplayer/shooters/OpenWorld/RPG elements and hate story/adventure and filmy experience which immerses and involves us more deeply than having fun.

Get more comfortable with indie games, that's the only avenue to seek if you're looking for innovation. Publishers will rarely if ever take outrageous risk on mutli-million dollars productions and they shouldn't be expected to when 9/10 sells like crap.
