I don't think Nintendo could afford to cut the price that much. I believe at most they could reduce the price by $50 for both SKU or make the deluxe the only option at $300 (the most logical solution) to coincide with a major launch (preferably a Mario title but the combo of Pikmin3, Sonic, Wonderful 101, and Rayman will have to do.) to regain/jump start momentum.
