xbone costs more despite poorer performance because early on MS prioritized TV and other entertainment over gaming which lead to a series of poor engineering choices to ensure xbone could have 8 GB of ram. sony only targeted 4 GB and got lucky that the market moved in a direction that would let them raise it to 8 GB in a cost effective manner in the final hours of development.
..so it's not really about the "profit" as i'm sure MS isn't pricing it any higher than they have to. they just are making gamers pay for their foray into entertainment. MS and Sony switched business strategies soo completely between last gen to this gen.
