That's what they said about the terrible DRM policies.

I can see it happening even if it's just a means of price cutting the hardware later down the line.

It would be a shame if they didn't, it would be the first time in over a decade I won't buy a new Xbox. Even Halo isn't enough to get me to touch that Kinect nightmare ever again after having one on the 360.

Uhh no, DRM is a software issue. The Kinect is a hardware issue. Just like the disk drive and the hard drive, you cannot have the x1 function without kinect. That's how it was built by MS, so that having the kinect be mandatory, it can be used by any developer and maybe reach its potential.
