Played about two and a half hours into Heavy Rain waiting for it to get good, but it was a painful chore. The story didn't impress me, and even if it was Citizen Kane, story can never compensate for a lack of gameplay.

I watched a movie with an amazing story today.  Sucked though.  Not enough gameplay.

You have your own opinion, but a story "can" compensate for gameplay if it's good enough, just as gameplay can compensate for a terrible story, and has had to many times over.

If you didn't like Heavy Rain though, just not your type of game.  It's a modern version of games like Police Quest, Leisure Suit Larry, King's Quest, Beavis and Butthead Virtual Stupidity, Snatcher, etc.  The Walking Dead is another modern game with this style of play, almost playing exactly like Heavy Rain with differences in how action scenes play out.  The older ones are more different as they're not confined to a couple areas, but rather a more open world and you can go back and forth between a few areas to try and find out where you're supposed to go.
