That's what I've been telling people. It is inaccurate to use the Wii U for a number of reasons. Most people see the Wii  an an extension of the current gen and not a leap, so it is reasonable to see why the sales were not spectacular (plus the added feature was not special). Mostly the hardcore Nintendo people were the ones who suggested this though, so it's no surprise.

Yeah, I do believe a lot of over optimistic Nintendo fans like to think the games will sell the system. But, they seem to look to the Wii as an example, and not the GameCube or N64. As of now the Wii U is selling slower than the 360's first year which is pretty bad. Even a lot of quality Nintendo games historically does not lead to Wii level craze. So yeah, my thoughts are pretty closely aligned with yours.
