My post was mostly inspired by the fact that I am seeing significant stagnation and repetition in gaming and the number of AAA titles I have desire to play is becoming smaller every year. With the way next gen is starting, I am not seeing any signs things will change. Looks like next gen is going to be about massive day 1 sellers that ride the hype train, and indie titles that do great things but don't have the budgets.

...

the real issue isn't used games.  it's what you just wrote there.

it's why i'm loving the indie scene so much lately.  they are just making better games.  publishers need to make better games, set budget in line with reality, find more efficient/cheaper ways to develop games.  publishers need to set budgets in line with revenues not comprimise my consumer rights to create revenues to justify their budgets.  like so many said: the current system is fatally flawed.  i'm not going to cry when EA goes belly up like THQ just did...  i'll gladly stick to publishers like Atlus that has their shit together.

But they are tied to one another...

AAA devs are making repetitive similar games over and ove because they want massive day 1 sales.

They want those day 1 sales because they figure you will resell your game after a week and those used copies will cut in to future profits

They tack on DLC, season pass, and episodic content so you don't trade your games...not because the game needs or calls for it.

And I agree, indie scene is where its at, but would be nice to see some high budget titles take risks too.
